The San Pedro River, in southeastern Arizona, is the last of its kind: undammed, flowing free from its headwaters Mexico into the United States on an arc to meet the Colorado River in the west. Migratory animals and migratory people have used this lush corridor to move north and south for millennia, but housing developments and water use by nearby US Army base Fort Huachuca threaten to desiccate this last verdant ribbon in the desert.
